Welcome. My name is Helen Edwards and I am an award-winning blogger and author. I adore writing stories for children and teens. I like to include themes of nature and our environment in my books. I also love writing non-fiction books about sustainability, eco-living and wellbeing. I am a freelance writer, blogger and speaker.

I am Mama to 3 sons and live in Adelaide with my family and 2 cats. I have been writing and reading since before I went to school. I wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. So, I went off and became a social worker. Seriously not writerly. But in fact it was, because most of my work was about people's stories.

I have lived with type 1 diabetes since 1979. I have multiple, chronic, hidden disabilities and conditions, alongside my type 1 diabetes. I manage all of these with grace and resilience. In 2001 I founded an award-winning online diabetes counselling service to support people living with diabetes. It was a hit. I ran this for more than 16 years and won many awards for this work. You can see more here.

In 2013 I started a blog called Recycled Interiors, which is now the Sustainable Home Hub. I am passionate about our beautiful planet. You can see more here.

I have successfully built an online platform of over 140,000 people following me and joining with me, in my words.

I have written and published 2 books and a number of ebooks. I have written hundreds of blog posts, magazine articles, social media posts and stories. I submitted my thesis for my PhD in Psychology in May 2019 and am currently awaiting my results - wish me luck!

When I am not writing or reading, I enjoy watching quality drama, comedy and nature programmes, listening to music, walking in nature, being near the ocean, roadtrips with my family, and caring for my many potted plants.

I have some exciting book projects underway. I have completed a middle-grade manuscript which is an Australian family drama set in rural NSW, and am working on getting my second middle-grade novel, 'The Forest Keepers - Secrets of The Emerald Stone', published. It is book 1 of a fantasy series based in a world of trees.  I am also available for all sorts of freelance writing and speaking work  - see more here.

"Stories make sense of the world and teach us about life. Stories entertain and dazzle. Books and stories and words are there in your darkest hours and, your most brilliant moments of joy. Life is stories. It is stories that put things into perspective, place you in the real world, take you away to another world, another time and another possibility. In a story anything can happen" Helen x

Tick Tock

By Helen Edwards

All the clocks in the house ticked together, some slightly off-beat, a musical background to her life. Tick, Tick, Tick. Tock, Tock Tock. Precision. Predictable. “Yet time runs away,” she thought, “Like wild horses galloping across the soft white…
