Let It Go

how to let go of anxiety and deal with the haters on social media

In the chaos of the world, do you wonder what on earth you are doing sometimes? Does worrying become your everyday companion? Does the relentless stream of information coming at you, make you feel like you are drowning?

It can feel like everything is pointless. It can feel like there is nothing you can do to change things. Life has to have purpose and passion, things that excite you, things that make you feel valuable and connected. You need to have agency, a sense that you can take action and make a difference.

The one guaranteed thing you have control over in this world, is your thinking. No matter what happens, how dark, difficult, or scary things might get, you have the ability to notice your thoughts, let them go, ignore them, quiet them,  and, change them. It’s so empowering when you remember that. It’s not a one-off thing. Thoughts continually take their own direction. Habits are formed. Exhaustion, pressures, responsibilities, the troubles of our world, daily life – all combine to feed negative thinking. It’s easy to fall into thought traps.

I find, living with multiple disabilities and chronic diseases, that my physical health is a big trigger for anxiety, and, vice versa, along with all of the usual pressures of life feeding this anxiety. I constantly have to remind myself to be like Elsa from Frozen, and LET IT GO; to breathe, to stop catastrophising, to remember joy, to hold the people I love and be in nature.

Life is simple when you think about it – you are born, you get 80 or so years (if you are lucky), and you die. There’s no big secret to the meaning of life. There’s no need for greed or hate or having to ‘win’. Hustle is a dirty word as far as I am concerned. Keeping up with the Jones’s is plain ridiculous.

Grasp each moment with the great awareness that life is a gift. Do your best, but don’t compare your best with others. Be kind. Care for planet earth. Love openly. Be gentle on yourself. Stay away from toxic people and the haters on social media. Be uniquely, beautiful YOU. Notice your thoughts. Make them full of lightness and balance, grow a beautiful garden within yourself, so you can withstand this complex, incredible, difficult world, and walk forwards with heart.

xx

Oh Helen what a beautiful piece. It is such a hard road you’re on but you are so right, taking control of what we can and letting the rest go is such an important step to living a much more fulfilled and peaceful existence.
