On Gallant Wings Pre-Orders

Beautiful Lake Boga is one of the main settings for On Gallant Wings. We stumbled across it over 20 years ago, on our way from Adelaide to Melbourne. Back then, there was the Lake, little town, the underground bunker, and a Catalina Flying Boat sitting on the dirt. I was mesmerised by the story of the high-level, top-secret work that happened here during WWII and vowed to one day write a story.
We visited again in 2019 on my first literary road trip to attend KidLit Vic in Melbourne and the CBCA national conference in Canberra. This time, the Flying Boat was living inside the incredible museum that now stands here. The rest, as they say, is history.
After the bombing of Darwin, there was much discussion about the best locations to build bases to service flying boats. Lake Boga was chosen because it’s a broad, wide lake, which can be approached from all directions, it had all the services needed for the base, had a train to Melbourne and was far away from any coastlines- which were being attacked by the Japanese.
This history is centred in On Gallant Wings. I’m looking forward to speaking at the Women With Wings event on Saturday 1st February. If you live in the Swan Hill area, we would love to have you join us. Bookings via the Catalina Flying Boat Museum
Pre-orders are now open for On Gallant Wings via bookshops and my website. Pre-orders really help an author because they show bookshops that there’s demand for your book and help it to get noticed. If your bookshop doesn’t have it listed yet, just ask and they can arrange to order it for you. Release date is 2nd April.
Thank you 😊 Helen
