Author & Speaker/Workshop Bookings for 2023

Dr Helen Edwards Children's Author AUstralia

I cannot believe it is almost the end of 2022. Things always seem to begin to move very quickly once we get to October. I have been busy with my head buried in my debut manuscript, working on edits for my publisher, and have just sent it to her, so I am up for air!

I am now looking to 2023 – because it is the year of the book for me! My historical fiction time time-slip adventure, set at Mount Buffalo will be released! I hope to be able to share the title and the release date soon. I will become very busy, very quickly, once the book is in the world, so I am now preparing myself for school visits and book week talks, as well as bookshop events and more.

More details will be available as we get closer, but at this stage, it is likely the launch will be in September, with local Adelaide events and a tour in the Mt Buffalo region. However, I will be available for virtual school visits all over Australia, for book week in August. I would especially love to connect with kids who know Mount Buffalo! And of course, locally for schools in and around Adelaide, book week talks can be in person.

If you or someone you know who works in a school, are keen to have me come and talk for book week – about the book, the amazing history behind it, including Guide Alice Manfield, the Mount Buffalo National Park and Chalet, and how children and young people can find their own ideas for historical fiction and weave fiction with fact, get in as soon as possible, so we can secure dates!

Workshop: Representation & Inclusion: writing characters who have chronic illness, mental illness, and/or who are neurodivergent

Dr Helen Edwards ran a professional development session for the ASA on Representation & Inclusion: writing characters who have chronic illness, mental illness, and/or who are neurodivergent. Helen was highly professional to deal with and conducted a session which was expertly researched and presented. The engagement and subsequent feedback from the participants was excellent. We look forward to running future sessions with Helen.

I am also taking bookings for people who are interested in learning more about how to be inclusive in their writing. I recently ran this workshop for the Australian Society of Authors and received excellent feedback. I can adapt the session to suit school audiences, universities and TAFE, workplaces and more. I can also work with you on extending the session into a half-day workshop.

I also offer workshops in a range of other topics – see more here.

Bring on the Year of the Book!

Helen
