Mindfulness, Taking Care of Your Health & Wellbeing

It is easy to become overwhelmed with life. Taking care of your health and wellbeing is the basic number one of life, but we often make this a bottom priority in the big busy world. Developing vision about where you want to go in life and making commitments to yourself about taking action in your life, are very important and help us to stay anchored in times of stress.

A Vision Board can help you to look at your life and where you are, where you have been and where you want to go.  Think about what you really want, if you could do anything or be anywhere, where would you be? Where would you be living, what would you be doing, who would you be spending time with? What would life be like?

A Vision Board may be an actual board, journal or any other way of recording these thoughts and dreams. You might like to use Pinterest, Instagram or your Blog as a way of recording this journey. Use words, drawings, pictures -include photos of people and places. It is not about any “secret” way of attracting things into your life, but simply about noticing what matters to you, what you want your journey in life to be about.  Your values and what has meaning for you are what really drive you in sticking to your goals, so it is important to know what these are too.

Appreciating one thing no matter how small in every day can increase your quality of life and wellbeing so by recording these things, you deepen their impact on your life.

Here is a exercise you can do to assess where you are at with life:

1. Rate your current level of taking care of yourself,  your health and wellbeing if “0” was the worst possible care and “100” was the best possible care

2. Is there anything you think you could do more of to better take care of yourself? Maybe not?

3. Is there anything you think you could  do less of to better take care of yourself? Maybe not?

4. Is anything getting in the way of taking better care of yourself? Maybe a person, situation, problem, life issue, thinking pattern or behaviour? Or maybe you feel totally at peace with your self care? If so, what is helping you to feel this way?

This worksheet for “The Willingness and Action Plan” from The Happiness Trap, Dr Russ Harris, is a great tool for committing to a goal in your life. I have used it myself and in fact the entire book is a wonderful and life changing read.

This can help you to work out what things need to change, what commitments you need to make and how to take action on these,  to make more time for your own health and wellbeing.

This is a great idea – sometimes we need to stop and take a moment to appreciate, think and plan! Jane
