Vignettes and the importance of faffing

freddie and flowers
Do you love to “faff” at home? Faffing comes from “faffing about”, and means “to spend time in ineffectual activity” – so I guess that may be a little like wasting time…… Except I totally disagree. So today I am redefining faffing to mean, “spending mindful time putting pretty things together to see what they look like, taking photos of them and loading them to instagram, creating vignettes and tidying little nooks up.”
And this is incredibly important for your wellbeing.
Are you with me fellow faffers?
Here is some of my most recent faffing. I would love to see yours, or if you are up to any fabulous faffing this weekend, please do share!

This week of “styling” I approached with some glee
I mean- how hard could it be?
Looks pretty simple in those magazines
    Making eye-catching little scenes.
Not so easy, I must confess
When my mantra is “more not less.”
I thought the process would be so rewarding
I could make vignettes out of all my hoarding!
Well, despite trying with all my might
Nothing I tried turned out right.
In comparison with the experts, my compositions looked absurd
I’ll let you judge for yourself- I call this Beaded Animals And Birds.
However, with frustration I won’t be crying
To perfect this art , I’ll keep on trying.
But I’ve only used “vignette” four times- just thought I’d mention,
If you don’t know what I’m referring to- you haven’t paid attention!
When interest in my “arrangements” you show
I’d like to proudly say-” It’s a vignette, don’t you know?”
Well this one’s as unstylish as you could get
    I guess I haven’t nailed it yet!

I’ve always called it fluffing about! I find it so relaxing but to others it must seem so neurotic as I flit about from one corner of the house to another tidying and rearranging.

Today i am faffing in the original sense of the word. Still in pj’s at 3.26pm, not answered the phone and decided to not answer the door when someone knocked. Been sleeping most of the day even though i slept well enough last night. Hopefully tomorrow will see me with a paint brush in my hand trying to make up time!!

  23. Ronnie Van Kempen on April 20, 2015 at 5:02 pm
