Vintage & Upcycled Kitchen Inspiration

How to organise and declutter your kitchen

I know how much you all love some vintage and upcycled kitchen inspiration and today I am pulling together some of the kitchens we have featured on the blog, as well as a couple from my house and some others I have collected.

Sustainability in kitchen design is a very important thing and we have many choices now in materials including recycled and sustainable timbers and other materials. There are also plenty of companies such as Cantilever Kitchens here, who are creating beautiful and sustainable kitchens.

I will share some other options for materials to use in your kitchen and how to consider sustainability soon, but for today, take some inspiration. Enjoy. And always always just do what you love – be real, be yourself. Follow the “un-trends” of life and create the space you want. I have a tiny galley kitchen but dream of a big country kitchen with all the trimmings, or a totally retro, vintage style kitchen, complete with old cooker and retro fridge. At the end of the day I am happy. I have what I need and have created a functional space, well mostly functional, and have added my own touches and quirky elements.

What is your kitchen like and what would your dream kitchen be like?

xx

Wow! I just went investigating Basil’s Brush. What an amazing place. We’re currently away from home and renting. My kitchen has modern bones but is filled with vintage bits and bobs. I’ve promised myself a retro Smeg fridge when this one decides its time is up. I feel at home surrounded by things that remind me of my childhood.

We’ve made over three kitchens (in past 3 houses). The one we have now is the first that is not black and white (love black and white !). I thought of doing black and white, but the old stone house we renovated here asked for more subtle colours. So the kitchen is soft greys, with colour pops of red, pink, and some green. Its the biggest kitchen I have had, a real farmhouse style. The only thing we could not fit in was a separate pantry (butlers pantry was a dream, but not achievable with space we had). I love the kitchen island my husband Ian made the best, a custom creation of steel with industrial styling and a timber top.

  34. Brocante in the Barossa on January 22, 2015 at 9:52 pm

I love the check board floor above (and do miss the one I had in the last kitchen we made over in Sydney, had always wanted one and loved seeing it every day !)

  48. Recycled Interiors on January 23, 2015 at 7:27 am

Hi Suzie Moss that is mine! It is easy, I just use gentle detergent or our organic counter spray and warm water or you could use a metal cleaner but I don’t find I need to. My hubby installed it, very simple:)

  49. Recycled Interiors on January 23, 2015 at 7:27 am

oh so lucky and what a lovely memory of your Mum Tania Scott xx

  52. CatePearce on January 23, 2015 at 9:52 am

Love the kitchen shots. I pretty much have my dream kitchen (apart from a live in chef!) – recycled timber, pressed metal splash back, big butler’s sink, plate rack, open shelving, rustic handles, vintage stuff everywhere, cooker in the old fireplace….yep, just the chef that’s missing….

  53. Brocante in the Barossa on January 23, 2015 at 10:34 am
